As you are well aware, we are in the midst of another New England heating season, and we are faced with the challenge of paying for fuel to keep the Shrine buildings and Montfort House warm.
We were hoping to nurse the furnace in Montfort House through this winter, but it died in mid-December. Thanks to the Provincial Office of the Montfort Missionaries, we received $82,000 to replace the large furnace with two furnaces that will be more efficient. The silver lining in this unforeseen development is that the new furnaces will burn less fuel. So, we will have a lower heating bill.
Nevertheless, we still need help in paying for fuel. January through March are financially lean months at the Shrine of Lourdes in Litchfield – fewer people visiting the Shrine and our Gift Shop, and our cash flow always slows down at this time of the year. Consequently, we are initiating a Mid-Winter Fuel Drive.
In the past, we began this fuel drive in the autumn, and some of you have already stepped forward with contributions for fuel. Thanks to those of you who have already anticipated our needs. We are grateful for your ongoing concern and generosity. If you have not already made a contribution to our fuel fund, would you consider lending a hand to keep the fires burning for the rest of the winter? Any donation, large or small, would be a help. Thanks for considering this.
If you are able to help us, please send your check to Lourdes in Litchfield, P.O. Box 667, Litchfield CT 06759. Make a note on your check that your contribution is for the Fuel Fund.
Thank you for all you do to make Lourdes in Litchfield and Montfort House a place of peace and prayer for all those who come here. Blessings on you and your loved ones.
